New track from Sean Madigan Hoen. Notes from the artist:
This is Here. Recorded in a Brooklyn Apartment.
My apartment looks out to a psychiatric hospital. On my days off I sit at the window in my underwear and write songs. Sometimes I put up a microphone and record myself doing it. This is one of those.

This week’s track comes to us from multi-instrumentalist Lauren K. Newman (aka LKN) and is an instrumental from her current recording session. LKN will play her first live show since last summer at the Towne Lounge here in Portland on February 15th! Lauren has four albums available in our online store, including her most recent, Postulate II, which came out mid 2007.

Can you believe we’re starting week three of 2008? We can’t, but we figured we’d throw you a new track anyway, since that’s what’s going on here. This one, another blog exclusive mp3, comes to us from NYC recording artist (and former Leaving Rouge frontman) Sean Madigan Hoen, who released his debut solo album, The Liquor Witch, with us last fall. Hoen is mostly writing and recording these days, though he can be seen playing solo shows in the NYC area or touring with his other band, The Holy Fire.

This week we are proud to release the first “single” from the upcoming Head of Femur album, Great Plains. The third full-length from the Chicago orchestral-indie-pop outfit streets on March 25th! Femur will be playing some regional and festival dates around the mid-west, more information on that and the album will be posted on our main site as the release date nears, but for now enjoy the tune!

Happy New Year! The first track from our first ever release; we thought this was a fitting way to kick off the new year of the song-a-week blog, which will actually be every week this year (we’re doing our best, we swear). “No One Is Free” was the opening track off of the Limitations, Boundaries, and Failures EP, which was our first ever release way back in aut-two, and actually one of the first ever written Still Life songs (it was shelved until they put together this EP). As topical now as it was in the early 90s when it was written, or perhaps even moreso. Enjoy!
